We unite caring people to give, volunteer, and take action to remove barriers to opportunities. That's been our mission since we first started serving Alaska. It guides how we solve our community’s toughest challenges and is why we’ve been able to improve lives for almost 70 years.
Alaskans deserve to achieve their potential. When people work together, opportunities develop. We focus our impact on three areas: financial security, a healthy community, and youth opportunity. Our program Alaska 211 supports them all—plus other areas.
Anchorage, Alaska – Feb. 11 (2/11) is National 211 Day. This annual observance celebrates the go-to, three-digit (2-1-1), 24/7 resource that helps millions of people in the U.S. and Canada. It connects them with locally available information, resources, and services.
Alaska 211 is operated statewide by United Way of Anchorage. It maintains the most comprehensive health and human services resource database in the state. More than 1,000 active agencies and 8,000 resources and services are available for referral.
Members can serve up to four three-year terms, and each one is a volunteer. Just like you, they’re community members. They’re committed to improving the lives of people throughout Alaska.
They set the compass for our direction and focus. Their terms are one year, and they can serve two terms consecutively. To be an elected official, they must first become a member of our board of directors, which often occurs as the result of a nomination.
When Alaskans can access quality, affordable care, they lead healthier, more secure lives.
